Elden Ring is the best-selling game of 2022

With over 10 million units sold, Elden Ring stands at the top of the charts.

Elden Ring quickly became a mass success after its February 25, 2022 launch. Even if you haven’t played it, you’ve certainly seen it everywhere you look. From epic videos of perfectly-timed dodges to memes about being maidenless, it’s risen to a high status. Along with its critical acclaim, Elden Ring now sits at the top of the charts as the best-selling game of 2022.

Elden Ring, the best-selling game

As revealed by NPD’s February 2022 video game sales, Elden Ring reached the top despite releasing at the end of the month. Along with Elden Ring, other titles sit high up, including Horizon: Forbidden West and Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The game also takes the top of the chart for the overall best-selling game of the year so far.

NPD’s sale results were collected up to February 26th. Because the FromSoftware game released on the 25th, that meaned it garnered its place at the top in a little over a day. The game is reported to have sold over 10 million units on Steam. On the daily, it reached a peak of 953,000 players on March 7.

There’s still time for things to change

Combined with the massive player base, the consistent rate of play, and the critical success, Elden Ring stands strong. While I’m sure more games will come out that will wow us, this game in particular seems to continue to garner countless attention. We’ll have to keep an eye out if Elden Ring continues to dominate the charts moving forward in 2022.

Of course, there’s still more time for Elden Ring’s best-selling game status to drop up or down. Seeing as we’re only three months into 2022, another game might come along to surprise us. However, the game’s dedicated fanbase and ever-growing status makes this seem a bit unlikely. In the meantime, keep rune farming, play Fashion Souls while you do, and go give Fia a hug.
