Elden Ring IP to expand “beyond the realm of games”

“The Lands Between are vast, but a Tarnished need not walk their path alone.”

Elden Ring has been nothing short of a critical success. Topping 12 million copies worldwide, the game took its spot as the best-selling game of 2022; that’s only within a month. In a press release by FromSoftware, they revealed they plan to continue on with the game’s greatness. FromSoftware plans to turn the Elden Ring IP into a full franchise, expanding it “beyond the realm of games.”

Expanding the Elden Ring IP

With 1 million units sold in Japan and 12 million units sold worldwide, Elden Ring dominates the gaming field. The press release credits the minds of Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin for their guidance on the game. All the success the game garners leaves FromSoftware to release a statement sure to make fans happy:

“Please look forward to more of “ELDEN RING” as an IP (characters and other intellectual property) in hopes of expanding beyond the realm of games.”

President and CEO/Director of FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki seemed stunned by the absolute success the game continues to garner. Giving a heartfelt thanks to the entire development team, Miyazaki also thanks the fans for supporting the game.

“We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats. Thank you for your continued support.”

Bandai Namco President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa also gave thanks to fans who’ve eagerly accepted Elden Ring. He promises “we will continue to create enjoyment and fulfillment through entertainment, so that we can come closer and connect to our fans around the world.”

Countless avenues of growth

It sounds like FromSoftware has big plans for continuing Elden Ring in the future. I’m unsurprised and delighted to hear they want to continue growing the IP. Considering how vast the game is, there are countless avenues to explore with the Elden Ring IP. With a strong development team and the minds of great authors, no doubt what’s to come next will be nothing short of spectacular.
