Capcom holds massive 3DS sale as eShop demise looms

It’s the end of the eighth console generation as we know it – and do I feel fine? H, E, double hockey sticks to the no. Ever since Nintendo announced that, between now and spring 2023, it would be gradually sunsetting online features for the 3DS and Wii U, I’ve been scrambling to think of what to spend my remaining fiver of store credit on. Some shovelware puzzle game, or a digital clock app perhaps? After all, the eShop is going down the tube as part of the phaseout, which means an entire library of digital titles is being vaporized.

A 3DS eShop sale of epic proportions

In fact, we catalogued quite meticulously all that will be blasted into the ether this time next year, so please do partake. My personal recommendation? If there’s one, single game I reckon you need to buy before the ePocalypse? Level-5’s Yo-Kai Watch 3. Nobody bought it, nobody played it; but it’s one of the best, most content-rich RPGs on the handheld. Physical copies are like gold dust, so unless you fancy shelling out 200 smackeroos for it, please – pick it up.

I’m not kidding. Please. This is a tragedy.

Anyway, back to the story. Sensing that the end is nigh, many companies with titles on the eShop have begun slashing their prices dramatically in an effort to shift a few more copies before they’re lost forever. Now, as NintendoLife reports, industry legend Capcom have joined the party. They’re hosting a 3DS sale of epic proportions, with a selection of AA games being offered for a mere fraction of their original cost. “It’s a nice opportunity for players to grab some titles they may have missed out on” amidst the cull, they say, “and if you’re a fan of Capcom’s games in particular, we dare say you’ll be eating rather well.” Of course, that’s rather like serving you a bowl of ice cream after having already shoved your face into a cowpat, but the sentiments’ there I guess?

Capcom’s sale, by the numbers

Still, Resident Evil: Revelations for the price of a sandwich is a difficult deal to turn down. Here’s the complete lineup of offers:

Nintendo eShop Capcom deals
The real joke is selling Dual Destinies without its best case, the DLC one, which will soon become inaccessible. Well done, lads.

There are some choice pickings in there, namely some absurdly cheap Monster Hunter goodness and the ever-dependable Ace Attorney games. Of those, I’d especially recommend Apollo Justice, as its 3DS release was unique in that all its sprites were touched up for the hardware. You can’t get this glossy remaster anywhere else, so if you’re looking to continue the franchise’s story after beating the trilogy on Switch, this is the best place to do it.

When does the sale end?

All told, despite the salivating many gamers will no doubt be doing over the thrift of these deals, it’s a sign of the times. This month next year, the 3DS and Wii U as they’ve been since the turn of the 2010s will effectively cease to be; and given that the eShop will stop accepting credit cards as early as this May, you’d best get on with preserving whatever bits of this generation’s history you choose to preserve. It’s in your hands, brave warriors.

How about you? Will you take advantage of any of these deals? Let us know!
