Atlus teases Soul Hackers return with mysterious countdown

“A further evolution, a continuous observation. And to that end, we must protect the world.”

The developers behind the Persona series return with some mysterious actions. Coupled with a teaser trailer, Atlus opened a website with a countdown towards… something. What exactly the countdown is counting for, we aren’t sure yet, but it’s likely they’re planning some kind of Soul Hackers reveal. Are you intrigued yet?

The mysterious livestream

During a mysterious livestream, Atlus kept fans waiting with its ambiance soundtrack and futuristic green affects. The music playing feels rather reminiscent of NieR, in my opinion. After teasing fans that “the information gathering sequence will commence in a moment… Please, wait,” the livestream switched to “compiling answers.”

A brief, geometric sprouting tree appears as the stream thanks everyone for their cooperation. What’s to follow comes glimpses of a trailer, saying they must “protect the world,” before cutting to a date: 02/21/2022 at 20:00.

What’s on the Soul Hackers countdown website?

After the mini teaser was shown, the Soul Hackers website opened up. Currently on the website stands the words “HACK BEGINS”, with a countdown slowly going down leading up to the date given. Given the name of the website, it seems there may be a revival of the Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers game that was released in 1997. The game came from the Shin Megami Tensei series, but hasn’t received much attention since its re-release in 2013.

Now, that seems to be changing. The mystery certainly feels exciting—it lends to the tone of the game they may be trying to set it. With all the attention the Persona series has been getting, it makes sense Atlus wants to follow up with a Soul Hackers revival.
