Astro City Mini V blasts off in Japan summer 2022

The Astro City Mini V contains 22 games, including several shmups from companies like Psikyo, Eighting, and Toaplan.

Fans of classic SEGA shoot-’em-ups, take note: SEGA’s next mini console is the Astro City Mini V. A follow-up to its Astro City Mini, this console features a slew of arcade games that play with a vertical display (also known as TATE mode). It’s set to release in Japan in summer 2022.

The Astro City Mini V contains 22 games, the majority of which are shmups from companies like Psikyo, Eighting, and Toaplan. None of the games from the original Astro City Mini carry over, but the console’s vertical display is the optimal way to play these old games. However, it seems like this is exclusively launching in Japan for now; no Western release has been announced yet, though this could change.

You can see a preview of the console and included games below courtesy of SEGA Toys on YouTube. Heads up: the trailer is entirely in Japanese and no English subtitles exist yet.

The Astro City Mini V is also fully compatible with all accessories released for the Astro City Mini, including the controller and arcade stick.

Maybe Limited Run Games will give it the same treatment as the Astro City Mini? We don’t know, but stay tuned for updates.
