You can get never-released ’70s and ’80s game cartridges with Atari XP

Recently, Atari announced Atari XP, an initiative for collectors and retro gaming nuts to purchase old Atari game cartridges from the ’70s and ’80s. Listed on the service so far, you can get Yars’ ReturnAquaventure, and Saboteur (currently for the US only), which means the Atari 2600/5200/7600 is getting focus in terms of games.

“With our large catalog of classic games, we saw an opportunity to bring high-value, nostalgic content to the very active community of hardcore Atari fans, collectors, and video game enthusiasts. We are confident that fans and collectors alike will be thoroughly impressed with Atari’s reemergence into cartridge production.”

Atari CEO: Wade Rosen

As for the Atari XP games, limited editions for Yars’ ReturnAquaventure, and Saboteur are newly manufactured. So no worries about cobwebs or dust from someone’s garage or warehouse. Each has instruction manuals with bonus tidbits. Also, a collectible pin, a certificate of authenticity, and a digital copy of the game for the Atari VCS

You should hop on this soon if you’re interested; since only 1,983 copies will be made with a $149.99 price tag on it. But there are standard editions with Atari 2600 cartridges retailing for $49.99. Everyone is still in the dark on the future titles, though. Atari has promised to “refine mechanics and graphics” to even the classical and modern aspects of their future games.
