About Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights is under development by WB Montreal, the team behind Batman: Arkham Origins. The game was originally slated for last year. However, the developers delayed it to provide players a more polished superhero experience.

Until yesterday’s post, however, the last update fans saw about the game was a trailer from October. Although WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar suggested in January the game remained on track for its 2022 release, the lack of real news worried some fans. Regardless, DC Comics remained hopeful for the unique story, tackling some deeper Batman lore.

Gotham Knights Court of Owls trailer

Last October’s trailer revealed the infamous, yet not-so-mainstream, villainous group the Court of Owls would be the central antagonists for the story. Since the game’s early teasers, hardcore Batman fans speculated the shadow group’s involvement, and were more than excited for the confirmation.

The game’s story exists in a world where Batman died. Even with the Dark Knight gone, however, Gotham still needs heroes. Therefore, in Gotham Knights players will take control of four iconic members from the Bat Family. Players can suit up as Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin.

Although fans at first wondered if the game would exist in the Arkham universe, the developers state this story is set in its own world. In addition, the inclusion of Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl as a playable character unofficially confirms the game’s non-canon status. In the Arkham-verse, Gordon’s status as Oracle makes it impossible for her to suit up as Batgirl.

Gotham Knights releases on October 25 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. Are you excited to save Gotham from the Court of Owls? Let us know below!
