Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown receives tournament events in new patch

A new patch for Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown has added new features and trophies to the brawler released on PS4 earlier this year. The update was announced on SEGA’s Twitter yesterday, detailing the new features and linking to a blog with the full patch notes. You can read said blog here

The beta of the tournament event will be critical to the future of Virtua Fighter as an esport. For any game in the franchise to have life in the FGC, the tournament events needs to work well. The beta of this mode for Ultimate Showdown can give the development team the data they need for future installments.

The tournaments will be open for all players and run at 9 PM on Saturdays, 6 AM & 3 PM on Sundays, all in JST. Another important note is that a loss in any Tournament Event match will not change your rank experience points. The new trophies also pertain to the new mode, encouraging players to give it a try.

I do hope enough players hop on to give the tournaments a whirl. I found the game to be good but needing some critical elements to take the next step into joining other modern fighting games. Getting enough data in tournament events can be one of those elements to fix the series going forward.
