Ultracore coming digitally to PlayStation 4, Switch tomorrow

Ultracore, the DICE-developed, SEGA Genesis side-scrolling shooter that many never knew existed, was unearthed a couple years ago and found its release on the Genesis, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, thanks to Strictly Limited Games, former DICE members and several other independent developers.

For those who weren’t able to purchase a physical release before they sold out, they’ll now have their chance because the game will release on the PS4 and Switch on June 23.

Prior to its physical release, Ultracore, which was previously known as Hardcore, was included as a pre-installed game in Analogue’s Mega Sg console, which is still available for purchase for $189.99.

During its initial development in the ’90s by DICE, the game was close to completion before publisher Psygnosis pulled the plug, leaving many to believe the game would never see the light of day. Thanks to the hard work of those involved, we have another happy ending for a previously lost video game.
