Source codes for NBA Jam, Cruisin’ USA, Joust, other classics leaked online

Matthew "Chandler" Perry is a boss.

Source codes for more than a dozen classic arcade games like NBA Jam, Crusin’ USA, WWF Wrestlemania and more have been posted to Github.

The Github user who uploaded the files goes by “HistoricalSource,” and describes their page as “a collection of historical source files, for education and perusal.”

In total, HistoricalSource uploaded the source codes for 14 games across various platforms. It is unknown what specific platforms the codes are for. The data itself might shed some light on that. The following is the complete list of games.

  • WWF Wrestlemania
  • Trog
  • Total Carnage
  • Smash TV
  • Roadkill
  • Revolution X
  • Open Ice
  • NBA Jam
  • NBA Jam Tournament Edition
  • NBA Hangtime
  • NARC
  • Cruisin’ USA
  • Sinistar

Frank Cifaldi, founder of the Video Game History Foundation, even chimed in on the situation with a bit of comedy.

In an age where video game preservation is becoming a more hot-button issue, there’s becoming a gray area, where more community members are taking action to ensure games aren’t lost forever. This topic was brought up once again when Sony recently announced it was shuttering the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and Vita Stores.

In any case, what’s your take on this issue? Sound off in the comments below. Oh, and if anyone finds out how to to unlock Chandler in NBA Hangtime, let us know!
