Soulja Boy claims he owns Atari, promptly gets proven wrong by Atari

When working in gaming news, sometimes you just need a story that can make you laugh. It’s like any other job. Whenever you see something insane happen in your field, you get to have some fun discussing it. So I appreciate Soulja Boy starting my week off with a laugh because he continues to be a clown wanting so desperately to get into video games, and of course it involves Atari.

According to a video he posted, he exclaims, “I own Atari. The first rapper to ever own a videogame company.” He then goes on to say that Atari is buying the Soulja Boy console for $140 million. And if you think I’m crazy for typing that, well here’s the video of all his claims. Sigh.

Now, this is all great for Soulja Boy if true. But there’s just one teeny-tiny problem! The company tweeted this:

Ouch. That’s no way to treat your new owner! Especially one that might have a history of trying to be a shady grifter in the gaming industry before! In all seriousness, there’s no way this is true. Trade articles would have been out announcing it before Soulja could get a video up. That’s how moves at competent companies work. I know Atari has had a rough couple of years, but they’re not that desperate.
