Sonya Blade led female fighter spin-off project rumored

Rumor alert! Sonya Blade, the original golden girl of the Mortal Kombat universe, just might be leading her fellow female fighters in a spin-off. After the box office success of Warner Bros. reboot of the cinematic version, there is talk that the studio is far from done with the spectacular fatal fighters.

Speculations are running the gambit of ideas. From a sequel to Simon McQuiod’s movie to any number of other projects, there is no telling what the next step will be for the franchise. One rumor that seems to be gaining traction is that of a Sonya Blade spin-off. Whether it is a standalone project featuring an all female cast like DC’s Bird of Preyor , or as McQuiod has implied-a bigger focus Blade in a sequel, it stands to reason that the women of Mortal Kombat could soon see an increase in run time. And the rumor does come from a reputable source.

Either possibility is a welcome one, considering how watered down her role was in the first film. Critics and viewers alike have remarked on Blade’s, or any female from the universe’s, lack of ump. As fans can tell you, Mortal Kombat girls kick brutal butt in the game franchise. Hopefully any project Warner Bros. green lights will give these femme fatales their due.

As rumors goes, it’s certainly a good one.  However, it’s still mum-the-word from Warner Bros. Here’s to hoping we get something more definitive soon.
