Sony comments on Microsoft acquiring Activision/Blizzard

In the wake of Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard, there are still a lot of questions to be asked about the company moving forward. A major one business-wise is what Microsoft plans to do with major franchises like Call Of Duty or Overwatch. Both those properties have massive player bases on other platforms like PlayStation and Steam. As expected, Sony didn’t stay quiet for long about the multiplatform franchises. In an interview with Wall Street Journal, Sony was pretty blunt about the reality that there are contracts to uphold.

“We expect that Microsoft will abide by contractual agreements and continue to ensure Activision games are multiplatform.”

Later on, Spencer confirmed on Twitter that he had talked to Sony and that the contracts would be completed. He also assured them that they planned to keep Call Of Duty on PlayStation. You can see the tweet below.

People are already speculating on what Phil means with that statement. Of course, the contracts with Sony were going to finish. Getting out of them would have been a legal headache. But what about when they finish? Does Microsoft get exclusive content? Could we see multiplayer and Warzone go multiplatform while single-player campaigns are exclusively on Microsoft? Only time will tell. But there is plenty of speculation to be had.

This will not be the last time Sony speaks on the Activision sale before its completion. There are plenty of other franchises that will come under discussion. Stay tuned to Mega Visions for all future updates.
