Sonic the Hedgehog has been added to Mario Kart 8 thanks to modder

While we’re big fans of Mario Kart 8 around these parts, every true SEGA Nerd knows Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is the true king of kart racers. I mean, just check out this article that details all the things the game does better than Nintendo’s racer.

However, the cold, hard truth is it doesn’t look like SEGA has any plans for a new entry in that beloved series. But thanks to the work of a modder named CorBond, Sonic the Hedgehog has now become a playable character in Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U.

CorBond swapped Sonic’s model with Metal Mario, so, as you can see in the above video, he’s using Mario’s animations. The modder said there’s still some more work to be done, like adding an official Sonic emblem, a character select icon and some other bits with Sonic’s model.

We’re pretty impressed with his work and would really love for SEGA to work with Nintendo to bring over some more of their popular characters (*ahem Alex Kidd) to the recently released Switch version. Which SEGA characters do you think would make the best fit for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
