Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe will expand, says producer

Ready for more of your favorite speedy blue hedgehog?

Forget the Avengers: Sonic is here to take over the cinematic universe! Movie producer Toby Ascher revealed the latest plans regarding the franchise. Along with the two films, a third on the way, and a show, the Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe continues to grow with hopes of more future content.

Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe

Toby Ascher worked on the first Sonic the Hedgehog film that was released in 2020 and remains part of Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s development. Just a month ago, we heard news that SEGA and Paramount plan to make a third Sonic movie and a TV series focusing on Knuckles. Ascher gave insight towards their ideas for future Sonic content:

“We’re creating a Sonic cinematic universe, so we knew we were going to add characters, like Tails and Knuckles; new to the films but beloved by gamers all over the world.”

Despite the fact Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has yet to release, the producers seem confident fans will love it given their announcement. So far, the film garners an average review, much like the first film did. However, many are noting they find the second much more exciting than the first. Whether that’s true or not, fans in the United States have to wait for its release.

Some fans suggest the Knuckles show may be a precursor to an inevitable third film. Perhaps the Sonic crew plans to make even more shows bringing different characters from around the franchise depending on how their current adaptations move forward

We’ll have to see where it goes

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 releases April 8, 2022 for its theatrical release. With a little over a week to wait, fans may get a taste for what a larger Sonic universe feels like when they watch it. If the “Sonic Cinematic Universe” ends up being even half as large as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’d be greatly impressed. Until then, look forward to the new Sonic content coming your way.
