SNK vs. Capcom could come back according to producer

It’s wild to think it has been almost twenty years since the last SNK vs. Capcom title. The series has laid dormant, with a cult of fans wishing it could make a return in the new age of fighting games. With SNK now back to producing new titles, fans have wondered if the two companies could agree to a new installment. Turns out, that might not be impossible.

In an interview with VGC, King Of Fighters XV director Yauyuki Oda confirmed that both sides are interested in returning to SNK vs. Capcom. Oda’s words are intriguing since he’s been significant in SNK’s fighting game revival.

Definitely in the future, that’s something that I think everybody on all sides, in both parties, are interested in making a reality.

He also said both sides noticed positive reception to collaborative posters between SNK and Capcom at EVO 2022.

Especially after we saw the reaction to the [Evo posters]… it helped us reconfirm that that is probably one of the most wanted things from the fighting game community across the world.

Oda is right. Doing another SNK vs. Capcom would be a slam dunk for both sides. Fighting game popularity has raged back into the gaming mainstream since the last installment back in 2003. Capcom is riding high on the anticipation of Street Fighter 6. Plus, SNK has seen success with the revivals of King Of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. If there’s a time to crossover again, it’s now.

Oda did confirm at the end of the article no official discussions have been held yet. But it seems like that reality is getting closer by the day. Are you hoping to see a new SNK vs. Capcom game soon? Let us know in the comments below!
