SEGA announces 10 more games to Genesis Mini line-up

We still need to talk about that 3-button controller, SEGA

It was only a few weeks ago, during SEGA FES, that a slew of new details were announced for the upcoming Genesis/Mega Drive mini console, which will come with 40 pre-installed games and release Sept. 19, 2019, and retail for $79.99.

During the event, SEGA announced the first 10 games that would be included with Genesis Mini, as well as the fact that the Japanese version would have the six-button controllers, while the Western versions would disappointingly receive the three-button versions.

Just this week, SEGA pulled the curtain back a little more, revealing 10 more games for its upcoming miniaturized console. Those games are:

  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Thunder Force 3
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker

While most of these games are what we’ve seen SEGA release on a plethora of collections over the years, the inclusion of Contra: Hard Corps is an exciting addition. Primarily because it’s a good game but also because it was developed and published by Konami. This means SEGA is working with other third-party publishers to license games for Genesis Mini, and it opens up a bunch of new possibilities for non-SEGA published games to be included.

The full list of announced games for the Genesis Mini are:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Thunder Force 3
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker

The Genesis Mini will include two wired controllers, a USB power adapter, a power cable and HDMI cable. You can pre-order it on Amazon here.
