Scarlet Nexus director hopes to make the next game more mature

One of the most underrated games of 2021 was Bandai Namco’s Scarlet Nexus. The anime action game had a unique world combined with phenomenal art direction and combat design. If there was one thing you could point to as a weakness, it was the story. The story wasn’t bad. But if you watch anime, you have a good idea of where the story ends up for each character. Now could this change if the game gets a sequel?

In an interview with InverseScarlet Nexus director Kenji Anabuki discussed that he hopes the game gets a sequel so the story can take a more mature direction. He explained:

“If there is a sequel, I would personally want to utilize the ‘superpower’ theme in areas other than battles. The world and settings of the story could potentially be created to suit an even more mature audience; by exploring themes like the dangers of having or using superpowers.”

As a fan of Scarlet Nexus, I love the ideas Anabuki wants to build on. The superpowers your characters have, and how dangerous they are, are glossed over at times in the game. It would be a unique angle for the sequel to explore how the powers can begin to mess with each character more. The game hints at it but then moves on and tends to forget the problems brought up for each ability. I hope Anabuki gets his wish and gets to dive in for another story in this wild world.

Scarlet Nexus is available on the PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It is on Xbox Game Pass if you want to try it before buying it. Do you think the game should get a sequel? What would you want to see if it did? Let us know below!
