Russia responds to Company of Heroes 2 by making its own game

There’s a new wrinkle in the Company of Heroes 2 and Russian drama, which reached its climax when the Russian government refused to allow the game to be sold in the country because of the game’s portrayal of the Soviet Army during World War II.

Officials from the Russian Military History Society announced yesterday the government will create its own game that will “have not only an entertainment value” but also “teach and be conducive to patriotic education,” said Arseny Mironov, an aide to Russia’s culture minister Vladimir Medinksy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the game will “focus on the inception of Russian military aviation during the first World War” and will be released next year. Additionally, the office announced government grants will be given to development studios that develop patriotic Russian games.
