Polymega shipping update coming next week, company says

Polymega customers might be in for some good news as the company announced it will share a “big shipment update” on Aug. 2.

The system has suffered numerous delays, which Playmaji, the Polymega’s manufacturer, has blamed on supply shortages, the closure of its overseas shipping partner, and their Wal-Mart representative “going silent” on them.

The Polymega is a modular, multi-system game system that plays a variety of cartridge and optical-disc based video games, including the SEGA Saturn, SEGA CD and PlayStation 1, to name a few.

Polymega shipment update coming Monday, August 2nd

In June 2020, Playmaji said the Polymega would begin shipping on Nov. 15, but once the timeframe came, they announced it would be delayed until early 2021.

According to Playmaji, “a major retail partner of ours who has sold many systems has had ongoing issues communicating the status of the project to us, and has also moved release dates without notifying us.” We would learn that retailer was Walmart. Earlier this year, Playmaji announced their Wal-Mart partner had effectively gone silent on them, and told customers who ordered from Wal-Mart to cancel their pre-order.

Earlier this year, Playmaji sent dozens of Polymega beta units to YouTubers, which showed the system in action, and it appeared to work as advertised. It will be interesting to see what information Playmaji shares next week, but a steady flow of communication would be a good step in the right direction for the company to fix its relationship with its community.

The Polymega is a modular multi-system game system that plays a variety of cartridge and optical-disc based video games, including the SEGA Saturn, SEGA CD, PlayStation 1 and TurboGrafx-CD, to name a few. It’s the first of its kind to support CD-based games and also the first to run on x86 architecture.
