One Piece Odyssey announced for 2022 release

For those who don’t know the adventures of the famous Straw Hats, the manga series One Piece is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! God, I feel old typing that. But the celebration is afoot with events and releases for the franchise, including an all-new game.

Bandai Namco has announced One Piece Odyssey, a new JRPG with an original story by series creator Eiichirō Oda. The game will be the latest developed for the franchise after the 2020 muso Pirate Warriors 4. It is being developed by ILCA games, which recently handled Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. You can check out the announcement trailer below!

Could this be the best One Piece game yet?

There’s been an abundance of One Piece games over the years, but I am cautiously optimistic about this one. For example, the fact that Oda is involved is surprising, given that he is now apparently close to finishing the manga. The word looks vast and colorful as well. It gives the feeling that you really are on the high seas in this zany world. Also, it’s a plus that the first trailer shows we can play all the Straw Hats for the most part (poor Jinbe). Here’s to hoping this game turns out to be the supreme video game adaptation for the franchise!

Finally, One Piece Odyssey releases on PS4/5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2022. There will be NO Xbox One or Nintendo Switch release of the game. Are you excited to jump into a new JRPG as the Straw Hats? Let us know in the comments below!
