New Sonic the Hedgehog TV series coming fall 2014

SEGA has announced a new Sonic the Hedgehog CG-animated series called Sonic Boom that will debut in fall 2014 and air on Cartoon Network in the U.S. The first season will include 52 11-minute episodes co-produced by SEGA of America and Genao Productions, according to a post on the SEGA Blog.

Sonic Boom is a character-driven comedy that leaves a trail of robot wreckage in its smoldering wake,” the post reads. “The series centers on Sonic, his best friend and sidekick, Tails, their never-ending search for adventure, and their battles with Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman. Rounding out the ensemble are fan favorites Knuckles and Amy Rose, plus a rogue’s gallery of enemies—some familiar to Sonic fans and some brand-new.”

The good news here is Takashi Iizuka is “overseeing the series to ensure that it’s true to the Sonic characters and universe.” Hopefully, that means we won’t be seeing so much “angsty teen” style characters like in the Sonic comics, and it will fall more in line with the tone of the recent video games.
