Multiple anime-based games announced for 2022 on several platforms

It is a great time to be a fan of anime and anime-based games. The announcements for next year have been rolling in over the past week, and I am so here for it! Trailers for the final half of Attack on Titan, and the Thousand-Year Blood War arc of Bleach dropped yesterday, to the delight of fans. Additionally, the second season of Tokyo Revengers and the fourth season of Overlord were recently revealed.

And because the anime Gods love us, many of our favorites are getting video game spin-offs next year too. Here’s just a few we can look forward to.

Overlord-Escape from Nazarick stars Clementine

As mentioned above, Overlord’s fourth season will premiere in 2022. The dark twist on a familiar troupe, Overlord’s main character Ainz Ooal Gown trapped in a now shut down Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (DMMORPG) named YGGDRASIL. Unable to log out, he searches for answers as to why he is still in game, meeting self-aware NPCs and expanding the influence of his guild The Great Tomb of Nazarick.

In connection with Overlord’s fourth season, a 2D metroidvania action-adventure game is scheduled for release. The stand-alone story features content overseen by series creator Kugane Maruyama and the anime’s original voice cast. Developed by ENGINES Inc. and published by KADOKAWA CORP. Overlord-Escape from Nazarick will follow fan-favorite Clementine, a sadistically cruel villain who met her fate at the hands of Ainz.

In this story, she has amnesia and must recover her memories, weapons, and powers in order to escape Nazarick. Transversing Nazarick using Clementine’s agility setup the levels for some awesome parkour. By powering up her weapons and gathering memory fragments, players will discover the hows and whys of her current situation.

Release date is some time in 2022. Wishlist it on Steam. Nintendo Switch is TBA.

Tokyo Revengers puzzles us

Tokyo Revengers, a relativley new anime, appeared on the scene earlier this year and gained a large following. Dealing with time travel, gangs and a murder mystery, the 24 episode anime is fast and furious. Due to its popularity, a second season is in the works.

The moblie game announcement comes from Twitter, where an offical account has been setup with a countdown for its launch, in late 2022. It is listed as a “National Conquest Puzzler,” produced by Toman Games, and will be on IOS and Android.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers- hunted or hunter?

Announced in November, Bandai Namco will launch a survival-based asymmetrical online multiplayer game in 2022. Set in the Dragon Ball Xenoverse, you will play as a “Raider” who embodies one of the iconic characters. Things look bleak in the announcement trailer, with Cell hunting the seven “Survivors,” caught in a “Temporal Seam.” Their only defense against the “Raiders’” extreme powers is a “Super Time Machine.” They will have to work together to survive.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. A closed beta test is coming soon to PC.

Black Clover Mobile features an extended roster

The incredibly popular series Black Clover is getting a mobile game in 2022 from developer Vic Game Studio and publisher Pearl Abyss. From the announcement trailer, we can expect to play as Asta, with the potential to unlock other characters from the anime. It appears that the game will have seasonal content passes which will include some characters.

The game is an RPG where players can revisit important parts of Black Clover’s story.

At this time, it is only due for release on IOS and Android in Japan. Given the anime and manga’s popularity, and impending shutdown of Jump Force’s servers, it’s always a possibility it will be released worldwide.

Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile hits all the feels

And last, but certainly not least, Square Enix surprised us last week with a first look at the new Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA) mobile game, set to launch Summer 2022. The mobile game was originally teased earlier this year as part of Fullmetal Alchemist 20th anniversary celebration.

After the death of their mother, and the tragic resurrection attempt using alchemy that left Edward without an arm and leg, and Alphonse’s soul bound to a suit of armor, the boys set out to right their wrongs in a world torn apart by deception, war and the search for a Philosopher’s Stone. Along the way, they meet a colorful cast of characters and experinces some truly horrific events. (You already know what I’m talking about…)

The mobile game, like Black Clover, will let players rediscover the story of the Elric brothers in a new way. The launch will initially be on IOS and Android in Japan. However, I already have my fingers and toes crossed that we will get it here in North America too. (Please, please, please!)

There is a lot to look forward to. And no doubt, we will hear about more to come as the new year kicks off. Are you excited for any of these games? How about new seasons of anime premiering soon? Hit me up and let’s chat!
