More fans push for Brazilian Portuguese localization in Sonic games

As the Sonic brand grows globally, the need to localize the games to more languages increases.

Twitter user Matthasnocuts posted a thread yesterday on the growing movement to localize Sonic games to Brazilian Portuguese.

In the thread, Matt urges SEGA to translate recent and future Sonic games to accommodate the growing Brazilian audience. He also cites a recent poll asking fans what they most wanted for the series to back up this claim. Matt points out that the number one trending response was the Brazilian Portuguese localization movement.

In addition, Matt also highlights a mod for Sonic Colors: Ultimate as another example of the growing Brazilian audience. The mod localizes the entire game to Brazilian Portuguese. Additionally, Matt adds that this mod and others are prime examples of the passion Brazilian fans feel towards the franchise.

Sonic fans who are wishing for this localization are so passionate about Sonic that they are willing to not only start this movement, but also make mods translating the game for others.

Sonic the Hedgehog’s increased global appeal

One probable cause Matt cites for this unprecedented growth is the increased worldwide interest in the Sonic IP following the first film. To support this claim, Matt adds an official growth chart from SEGA Sammy showcasing the rapid increase in business offers following the movie’s release. In addition, the bottom of the graph shows an official statement reflecting on the increased inquiries from global partners.

Trend of License-out Sales of Sonic IP

Matt’s concluding thoughts urge SEGA to localize future games to more languages. He additionally states that the evidence presented in the thread showcases the lengths Sonic fans will go to for localization.

With Sonic growing as fast as he currently is as a brand, hopefully you will consider localizing future Sonic games to a lot more languages. It’s evident that there are tons of Sonic fans who are willing to support this brand if you give them the chance. They go to great lengths.
