Toge Productions, the studio behind Coffee Talk, released a statement through its PR representative Johana Tanoto:

From Toge Productions, we’d like to say that having Fahmi be part of our team was a true honour and blessing. Being able to collaborate in creating Coffee Talk and making the game come to life for everyone to enjoy has been nothing short of a true wonder. We miss him already and we hope that he’ll continue to watch over us as we keep his legacy going as best we can.

Remembering Mohammad Fahmi

Fahmi got his start as a game programmer and designer at Gameloft Indonesia. He then spent years as the editor-in-chief for Tech in Asia. Later, he joined Toge Productions as a designer.

With Toge Productions, he released his most well-known game Coffee Talk. A barista simulator and visual novel hybrid, the game puts the player in the shoes of a coffee shop barista in a world that features magical creatures alongside humans. It’s a very sentimental, emotional game that relies heavily on dialogue and character-driven storylines, and it subsequently received praise for its characters and storytelling.

Following the launch of Coffee Talk, Fahmi left Toge Productions and joined indie studio Pikselnesia. At Pikselnesia, he worked on the short visual novel What Comes After. At the time of his passing, he was working on his next project at Pikselnesia: the music-themed adventure game Afterlove EP. The game is set to launch sometime in 2022.

Hasnul Hadi, the leader of PlayStation Studios Malaysia, memorialized Fahmi on his Twitter account:

Our industry has lost one of the brightest stars. ⁦[Fahmi] was someone I was always inspired by. We met at the first Level Up KL where we talked about how we could grow the region together. No words can explain how great this kind and amazing soul. I will truly miss you.

We at Mega Visions extend our condolences to Fahmi’s family and friends during this difficult time. His work left a major impact on those who experienced it, and he will be missed.

Daniel Hein is either A) a lifelong video game fanatic, writer, and storyteller just sharing his thoughts on things, or B) some kind of werewolf creature. We're not quite sure which yet. He also makes mediocre video game retrospectives (and other content!) on YouTube where you can watch him babble on for hours about nothing.
