John Romero is hiring for a new FPS game

If you know the history of first-person shooters, you’re familiar with the name John Romero. He’s the Co-Founder of ID Software was a designer on FPS classics such asΒ Wolfenstein 3D,Β Doom, andΒ Quake. He knows a thing or two about FPS games, and it seems like he wants to come back to the genre.Β

Romero announced on his Twitter yesterday that his studio is hiring for a new FPS! While no details of what the game will be like we’re given, he did emphasize the need for developers familiar with Unreal Engine 5. So take that as you will. You can find the announcement tweet below.

Ok, look. I know everyone’s first thought is to bring up Daikatana. Yes, I know it’s a terrible game with a troubled development history. But that was also 25 years ago. And John Romero has done titles since. Including working on one of my underrated titles of last year, Empire Of Sin. He’s publishing and developing this idea with his company. That means it has to come from a sheer creative need to see it through.

We will update readers in the future on what this title turns out to be from John Romero and his studio. I say give it a chance! But what do you think? Do you think he can return to the genre in glory? Or will he fall flat again as he did with Daikatana? Let us know in the comments below!
