Jet Set Radio inspired free runner to launch Kickstarter campaign

It’s been years since we last had a new entry in the beloved Jet Set Radio franchise, but two French independent development studios are working on a new PC title that is heavily inspired by its world.

Fusty Game and Midgar Studio are heading to Kickstarter to help fundĀ Hover: Revolt of Gamer that features first-person, free runner, similar to Mirror’s Edge. What’s more, Jet Set Radio composer Hideki Naganuma is set to handle the soundtrack for the title to give it even more of that SEGA familiarity.

Set in an alternate universe, society is governed by an iron-fisted tyrannical government that will stop at nothing to rid the world of video games. It has confiscated video game consoles and thrown their owners in prison. You are a member of a Gamer Team whose members wear special suits that enable them to jump extreme heights and distances and maneuver around the city to free your fellow citizens and take down the control centers where the government runs its anti-video-games campaign.

As you recruit new players, they become available to play, and you’ll be able to gain experience points to upgrade certain attributes.

In addition to the Kickstarter campaign, Hover has been successfully green lit on Steam. Lastly, the development teams announced the addition of online multiplayer and co-op play and Oculus Rift support.
