HORI may create a new retro controller to play games on Arcade Archives

HORI wants to know if fans want their proposed retro game controller.

Gaming accessory manufacturer HORI recently expressed interest in creating a retro controller designed for games on Hamster’s Arcade Archives series.

During one of Hamster’s Arcade Archives livestreams in December, HORI first showcased one possible design for the custom controller. Since then, the company revealed a variety of possible concepts for the controller’s layout.

HORI’s proposed controller designs feature various functionality options including a joystick, trackball and a dial. In addition, their images show off a six-button layout, perfect for playing retro fighters. One possibility even includes a modular design that allows players to adjust the controller to suit individual gameplay needs.

Before HORI proceeds with any of the possible controller designs, however, they first want to gauge consumer interest. As a result, the company encourages fans to send an email to share their opinions on the retro controller. By January 31, HORI will decide whether to pursue the new controller based on the level of interest from the community.

Arcade Archives: an immersive retro experience

Since Hamster Corporation started the project in 2014, Arcade Archives continues to grow and create a truly immersive arcade experience for modern consoles. To this day, Hamster continues to grow the list to include a variety of classics, ranging from Super Pac-Man to Gunnail. Although it would be difficult to list the countless arcade classics in the series, you can visit the official website to see its true scope.

In addition to giving players the opportunity to revisit classic titles, Arcade Archives provides an immersive experience through its customizable display settings. This allows players to recreate the feel and atmosphere of classic arcades. Players can also relive the competitive nature of arcades through the games’ global online leaderboards.

Should HORI follow through on their plans, the retro game controller would further the immersion established throughout the series. Pairing Arcade Archive’s iconic titles with the classic layout of HORI’s controller could build the ultimate arcade experience at home. If you’re interested in using the proposed controller, you can send your thoughts to HORI’s email before January 31.
