Half-Life 2 Ravenholm expansion mod gets a free demo

Head back into the haunted town of Ravenholm with this Half-Life 2 mod, which has a free demo now.

If you’ve played Half-Life 2 before, you know how awesome the Ravenholm chapter is. Even almost 20 years later, it remains one of the most memorable parts of an already incredible game. With its terrifying atmosphere and awesome level design, Ravenholm is easily a highlight for Half-Life fans.

One complaint you could have about Ravenholm, of course, is that it’s over too quickly. A new mod, however, aims to remedy that. Named We Don’t Go to Ravenholm, it takes players back into the haunted town on another quest for survival.

“You can think of this demo like its Chapter One release,” said the mod’s author 3stripedkilla. “It is basically Chapter One, but just open enough to change for the full release.”

It looks like a frightfully great journey back into Ravenholm already, and it has a free demo available now. We can’t wait for the final release.

Half-Life 2 and the new Ravenholm mod

This mod has been in the works since at least May 2021, when 3stripedkilla released the first update for the mod on Mod DB. They were inspired by the Ravenholm chapter, struck with how memorable and well-designed it is. So they set out to make a mod that captured that same feeling of imagination and terror.

3stripedkilla expanded on the concept of the mod. “This mod is about bringing players the familiar feel, atmosphere and action of the original Ravenholm from Half-Life 2. In We Don’t Go to Ravenholm, you wake up as Freeman himself, but in a different place and different time. You will have to walk through the town full of traps and death. Will you make it through, or become one of the corpses laying on the streets?”

You can download the demo for the mod here. It will take about 30 to 40 minutes depending on the player, according to 3stripedkilla.

Have you given the We Don’t Go to Ravenholm mod for Half-Life 2 a shot yet? What do you think of it? Let us know!
