GalaxyTrail announces Freedom Planet 2 in development

GalaxyTrail, who developed the Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired Freedom Planet, has announced that the sequel is now in development.

Along with the teaser video, GalaxyTrail posted the following information on their website:

The sequel to the Wii U hit Freedom Planet is now in development! Join the heroes of Avalice as they face their greatest challenge yet! An ancient terror has emerged from the depths of the ocean. Merga, a water dragon from Avalice’s oldest and deadliest war, has been freed from her crystal prison as a consequence of the Kingdom Stone’s destruction. War is imminent once again, but this time, the heroes are split between sides. As friendships are tested, will the girls stand united when Bakunawa rises?

Freedom Planet was released on July 21, 2014 on Windows and Oct. 1 and Oct. 29 on the Wii U in North America and Europe, respectively. The game originally began as a Sonic the Hedgehog fangame but was eventually changed to become its own game; however, those who’ve played the game will attest that it feels very much like a Sonic game.
