Demons of Asteborg, a new metroidvania game, out now

Fans of metroidvania stylized games, rejoice! Nindo and Neofid Studios’ Demons of Asteborg is officially out on Steam. The action-adventure platform game boast beautiful 16-bit graphics straight out of our fondest retro gaming dreams.

Originally a Kickstarter project launched in September 2019, the team at Neofid Studios began officially working on the game in late 2019 with completion of the Steam and Nintendo Switch versions announced last week. The studio has plans for Demons of Asteborg to come to the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis starting in mid-August. ROMs for other emulators will eventually be released as the team continues to work on its development.

Demons of Asteborg follows the hero Gareth as he attempts to prevent Zadimus and his evil forces from invading the lands of Asteborg. Intertwined throughout the story, the player must uncover the mysteries of Gareth’s past. Travel through nine different levels on a journey to save Gareth’s world.

As a lead-up to the PC and Switch releases, Neofid dropped a hotly anticipated teaser trailer on July 31. Rolling out like a classic episode of Berserk, the anime style opening clips show a world plunged into darkness and beset by untold horrors. The silver haired knight Gareth is on hand to hop platforms, swing his mighty sword and decimate the evil before him. An epic score follows him, perfectly highlighting his questionable past. Who is the woman and how does she figure into his fight? You’ll have to play to find out!

For more release information, check out Demons of Asteborg’s website. Pre-orders of the cartridges are on sale now for 49,00€ ($57.00) and 69,00€ ($80.00).
