A physical version of Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection is coming

Pre-orders open in January 2022.

Last night, the official Twitter page for Valis announced The Fantasm Soldier Collection will receive a physical launch.

Limited Run Games will publish the game for North America. They plan to begin pre-orders in January 2022. Developer Edia announced in their official press release that Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection will receive both a standard and special edition for Nintendo Switch.

In addition, Edia plans to release a digital version of the game for overseas markets as well. They state in the press release that they will announce further details about both versions in the future. Currently, The Fantasm Soldier Collection will release exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo Switch on December 9. You can watch the official trailer for the Japanese release below.

Earlier this year, Edia launched a successful crowdfunding campaign to produce the ports. As a result, the collection will release in time to celebrate the original game’s 35th anniversary. The Fantasm Soldier Collection includes the entire original Valis trilogy. All of the games in the collection are direct ports from the PC Engine releases of the original titles.

Further details about the game are listed on the Nintendo Store page. Although all of the games in the collection are direct ports, Edia added some modern features. One such feature is the ability to save your progress at any point and rewind gameplay segments to recover from mistakes. Additionally, the compilation includes sound and visual gallery modes.

While there is currently no release window for Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection in the west, the beloved 2D action game will return to North America in the not-too-distant future. Limited Run Games will publish the physical release, and pre-orders will open on their official online store in January.
