A new Saints Row will be revealed at Gamescom

Saints Row reboot

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! After months of teases, it seems that Volition Games is ready to reveal a new entry in the Saints Row franchise! According to a tweet from Geoff Keighley, the first trailer will premiere at his event, Gamescom Opening Night Live. You can check out the tweet below.

And if you had any doubt, the Twitter account for the franchise already responded in typical fashion.

A little bit about Saints Row

It’s great to see the Third Street Saints finally back! The series has had a very intriguing history. First, it started back in 2006 with Saints Row. The game got positive reviews but was compared heavily to being a Grand Theft Auto clone. It wasn’t until 2008’s Saints Row 2 that the series started to find its identity. Grand Theft Auto would be the serious and gritty crime sim series, while Saints Row started to dip its foot into satirizing the genre.

The series then went all for the satirizing in 2011’s Saints Row: The Third. The game is the only game I know in existence that lets you run around and whack enemies with a dildo bat. No, you read that sentence right. Saints Row IV dropped in 2013 and continued the satirizing angle in creative and fun ways, but the ending did leave questions about how the series will continue. I won’t spoil, but I am VERY curious to see if this game is a reboot as the tweet implies. It would make sense given the ending of the last game.

Gamescom Opening Night Live will be on Aug. 25 at 11 am PT / 2 pm ET / 7 pm BST / 8 pm CEST.
