A “Judgment Day” clock launched by SEGA, fans speculate sequel

Judgment sequel incoming? In 2019, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio diverged from Yakuza to release Judgment. The detective story follows Takayuki Yagami in the streets of Kamurocho, which fans of the Yakuza series are quite familiar with. The game received solid reviews, although some critiqued the similarities between Yagami and Kiryu’s fighting style. You can check out our review here.

Back in February, we reported on a remastered version of the game heading to PS5, Xbox X|S, and Google Stadia for $39.99 (It’s out today). The remaster comes with all previously released DLC and will have “refined visuals,” run at 60FPS.

Then in March, there where whispers of a potential sequel heading our way. According to Gematsu, the Japanese developer published a series of new trademarks. One of those trademarks was named “Lost Judgment“, suggesting a new entry in the series. Well, here’s where it gets interesting, folks.

Today, SEGA unveiled a countdown clock on Ryu Ga Gotoku’s official website. The clock stops on May 7, 2021 at 7am Pacific / 10am Eastern / 3pm UK. Right below the clock is a link to their YouTube channel, where a video drops the exact same day. With all the details we just discussed, there could be two potential scenarios.

It’s the final countdown.

With every Yakuza recently getting a remaster and PC release, it’s possible the announcement could be a remaster for PC. The other (and hopefully more likely) scenario is a sequel. The trademark name suggests a new entry in the series. A grandiose event like a countdown clock would be wasted on another port announcement. Once the clock hits zero, we’ll be sure to report it on Mega Visions.

What do you think it could be? (The only good answer is a sequel, obviously!) Share your thoughts with us below!
