A fan translates obscure Dreamcast game into English

Lost in translation no more

More fun Dreamcast news!

Last week, we reported on an interesting piece of news, regarding an old, niche Dreamcast game. A trailer for this game was found in a similarly obscure title called Bokomu no Tatsujin. The game functioned as a life simulator, with the graphics baring a resemblance to the WarioWare series.

The discovery was revealed by Dreamcast Junkyard contributor Animated AF, who has some more awesome news for you guys. In their latest blog, they announced an English translation of Bokomu no Tatsujin! In the blog, they explained their reasoning for the project:

I have owned this game for a few years but never really played all that much. It’s always been one of those games I’ve been super curious about but the language barrier was holding me back from getting the most out of it. I grabbed a GDI file and extracted it to have a mooch around in its contents and discovered that every single bit of the game’s text is image based. That got me thinking: I wonder how easy it’d be to machine translate this and make it more playable for us non-Japanese players? Turns out: much easier than I would have expected!

Translated as Boko Dream Master, this project’s English dialogue is almost entirely translated already. With the exceptions of the cutscenes and the voice acting, it’s essentially finished. A current build of the translation is available for download.

You can download the game here.
