3D Sonic 2 will get new gameplay modes

When 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 releases on the Nintendo 3DS in September, it will bring with it some fresh new gameplay modes.

One is called “Ring Keep” mode, where you begin the level with 10 rings and every time you’re hit, you lose half your rings.

The other new addition is the ability to have a friend play as Tails, just like in the original Sonic 2 on Genesis. Both players have to own a copy of 3D Sonic 2 and can connect wirelessly together to play. There’s also a two-player versus mode that sounds kind of awesome.

You’ll also get a quick save feature and can play the Japanese and international versions of the game. 3D Sonic 2 will release in Japan on July 22, and the next M2 title in the 3D Classics line to release in the West will be 3D Streets of Rage 2 on July 23, after it was delayed a bit.
